What is a Partner Organization?

Engineers Without Borders - International works in collaboration with various national and international groups affiliated with its member organizations. Partners may include: (1) universities, technical, and vocational schools; (2) engineering companies; (3) humanitarian organizations; and (4) NGOs.

Engineers Without Borders - International defines "partners" as follows: "Partners represent organizations that resonate with the mission of  Engineers Without Borders - International and its member groups, share their vision, and work side by side with them on projects on an as-needed basis. Partners remain independent from Engineers Without Borders - International and its member groups and are not themselves engaged in their operational activities. Partners may work on projects and provide services that would complement the services of the member groups of Engineers Without Borders - International in various communities worldwide. The relationship between the member groups of Engineers Without Borders - International and partner organizations should be seen as a two-way street with exchange of information and in good faith. Affiliation with Engineers Without Borders - International does not imply funding between the member groups of Engineers Without Borders - International and its partners but partners could potentially work together in raising funds. Partner organizations must maintain a professional code of ethics and standards of practice in the administration of volunteer resources. The main role for partners is to support collaboration and information-sharing with the Engineers Without Borders - International member groups. Partners activities remain at all times independent from those of the member groups of Engineers Without Borders - International and do not imply any legal relationship with Engineers Without Borders - International and its member groups.”

Projects conducted by individual EWB/ISF member groups are grassroots and small and are not usually addressed by in-country consulting firms. It is a  matter of policy that
prior to taking on projects, EWB-I member groups make sure that they are not competing with private engineering firms.
