This conference,
the first in Sub-Sahara Africa,
will explore how
the engineering profession can implement
sustainable projects to meet the UN
Millennium Development Goals through capacity
building in rural communities in Africa. Unlike
other conferences, this conference will focus on
problems specific to communities in Africa and
how African indigenous systemic solutions can be
developed through long-term and effective
partnerships with in-country and external
stakeholders.
Issues of interest in this conference include:
water and sanitation, health, energy, shelter,
information and telecommunication technology,
business development, education, and community
development. Women and gender issues will be
incorporated throughout the program. It is clear that efficient and
cost-effective delivery of basic
necessities to disadvantaged communities in
Africa can break cycles of poverty, open doors
to better health, provide education to men and women,
and create opportunities for employment.
Conference
Objectives
-
Address problems faced by disadvantaged
communities in Africa, especially in rural
areas.
-
Develop a
broad range of holistic and systemic
solutions to African community problems.
-
Provide an
opportunity for the conference participants
to become acquainted with problems faced by
communities near Yaoundé.
-
Explore
collaborations, exchanges of students and
engineers among African countries
-
Explore
collaborations for building a network of
replicable “green village” models across
regions in Africa.
-
Develop
programs for young engineers and women to
become more involved in village capacity
building.
Conference Program
